Introduction
This exhibit focuses on Frogs, an arcade game released by Gremlin Industries. The game was released in 1978 and is a coin-operated, upright/standard cabinet, controlled by a four-way joystick and one button. The joystick controls the direction of the frog in game, while the button controls the tongue of the frog. Frogs was not a violent game and had very simplistic game mechanics, additionally, it was a game that could be seen as a women’s or men’s game according to Lane Hauck, one of Gremlin Industries’ designers; however, it was not as much as a success as other games such as Frogger which came out in 1981 from the same company. Even though it contained a newer jumping mechanic and an easy to play premise Frogs was largely forgotten in lieu of other more successful games like Frogger.
