In november 1993, three million copies of Mortal Kombat 1 were sold on Nintendo SNES, Game Boy, Sega Game Gear, and other devices.

When Mortal Kombat 1 was first released for Nintendo SNES in North America, the game had to create a censored version for the players to play. The “Family Friendly” policy for Nintendo does not allow the game to include any violent scene, sexual scene, and death scene. This is the main reason why most of the Mortal Kombat 1 we play these days are not the original version of the game.

Game Boy:

This is an 8-bit handheld game console which is also developed by Nintendo.Therefore, the version on this device is also the censored version. This device consists of 8 buttons, 4 control buttons, A and B are functional buttons, 1 start and 1 select button. I assume that the button A is for punch and B is for kick if people are playing Mortal Kombat on this device. 

Sega Game Gear:

Sega Game Gear was first released in the year of 1990. This is a much better device because players can actually get accessed to the uncensored version by entering a cheat code. The device itself is also an 8-bit handheld game console, which is the same as the Game Boy device. Both devices have delays in gameplay which the user experience wasn’t great at that time.

In the year of 2011, Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection was released and players can get access to Mortal Kombat 1,2 and 3. This allowed gamers to experience the original uncensored version of these games. This Kollection made the endangered versions of the game popular again, and gamers who never experienced the old version will now be available to play them.
