Slow looking Analysis (Object 5 )
Describe what you see: what it is; what its shape is; how and from what it was made; what decoration, damage, or other striking details it possesses.
Then describe the social and historical context of your object (the object’s time, place, and purpose). In this section, you may include: what the object is for; when and where it was made; when and where was it used, and by whom. Discuss its purpose, its place and historical period, and its cultural significance. Explain how it contributes to your understanding of the monster. (Not all of these questions will apply to all objects! Focus on areas that help shed light on your monster.)
In this section, you must also illustrate your primary artifact with at least two other objects of interest.
Artifact 5 – sculpture of Dragon from the 7th century (Tang dynasty) in medieval China. Different from Beowulf as this dragon does not have wings. But in one picture of the Beowulf manuscript (My artifact 1) the Beowulf dragon also was not shown with wings so possibly this dragon like the Anglo-Saxon one, too had retractable wings that only come out when needed. In ancient China, the dragon was seen as an icon of protection and power not as an enemy.
