The official ending is a classic Hollywood-style ending where the survivor base actually exists, the only step needs to take is to cure mutants and get the world back to normal. The alternative ending is more thought-provoking, it is trying to change the entire outlook of the world shaped in the early stages, the audience is forced to admit that the Darkseekers are also part of the world and have the same intelligence and feelings as humans. Neville, who has been capturing Darkseekers to do experiments to find the cure is actually an uncompromising monster, killer. The glory of mankind is about to fall, only a few survivors who are not been infected are the real outcast loner. Neville’s knowledge of the Darkseekers is completely incorrect, the cure he has been looking for is not needed by the world.
Social Stigma
People can have deep misconceptions about a disease when they are newly exposed to it. From the emergence of the coronavirus to today, as the speed of its spread keeps increasing, its preventive measures starts to be taken seriously by people all around the world. Our lives have changed dramatically, many unfortunate changes and difficulties have been added to our daily life, which brings a lot of frustration and anxiety. One of the serious issues that come with this is the urgent need to focus on the stigma associated with the epidemic.
At the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic, people were fearful and scared of the unknown virus. If someone gets infected they would be discriminated against and isolated. Individuals, groups, and countries that were considered potential sources of virus transmission were stigmatized by other people. This is a typical type of social stigma, it unfolds in different ways at different times as the epidemic progresses. At the beginning of the epidemic, most people only had stereotypes about coronavirus and misconceptions about its infectiousness and preventive measures. In the middle and later stages of the epidemic, these stereotypes start to be reflected in cognitive-emotional aspects, with people becoming disgusted and fearful of people with symptoms, even those who have recovered. More severe cases may even show up at the behavioral level, such as disrespectful or even aggressive behaviors.
People's lack of knowledge of some diseases has caused those patients to suffer s a lot, and a very typical example is HIV patients. Most people are reluctant to interact with HIV patients or to touch things that HIV patients have touched. In fact, HIV can only be transmitted through sex, blood, and mother-to-child transmission. HIV is not transmitted through contact, tears, sweat, or saliva. You will not be infected by eating and communicating with HIV patients in your daily life.
Those people who know are not afraid. When we don't fully know about a disease, we should not judge without knowing the whole picture. Don't set stereotypes in your mind by listening to rumors at the beginning.
