Historical Context

I Am Legend was based on Richard Matheson's novel with the same name written in 1954, this novel has been adapted into three different films since its publication. They are The Last Man on Earth (1964), The Omega Man (1971), and I Am Legend (2007) which are mainly focused on this exhibition. I Am Legend (2007) is a horror science-fiction movie directed by Francis Lawrence. Science fiction horror films began to re-emerge in the late 1990s, and Warner Brothers, which had owned the rights to the novel since 1970, decided to start developing this project.

The Darkseeker was originally played by actors wearing prosthetics which did not achieve the expected effect, so Francis decided to use Computer-Generated Imagery (CGI) effects. Not only did the Darkseekers use CGI, the deer, and lion that appeared in the film also used it. The CGI effects were also used to eliminate other pedestrians, vehicles, etc. in order to show the sense of loneliness. The original budget of the film is very limited, the decision to use CGI effects direct led to a huge increase in budget and an extended post-production time.

I Am Legend is rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America(MPAA) due to its sci-fi and violent scene. This film is made for all people who love horror science fiction films, there is no specific audience.

Virus

The virus mentioned in the movie is a genetic modification of the ITEM#3measles virus, it was originally intended to treat cancer, but the virus mutated and became deadly. This mutated virus quickly spread around the world and infected more than 90% of the world's population. The infected people who survived mutated into vampiric mutants called Darkseekers, they were extremely sensitive to the sun and only active at night after sunset. The few remaining people who have not been infected lives alone to find supplies and protect themselves from the predators of the Darkseekers. The main character Neville is one of the few who are not infected, he is immune to the virus and extracts a promising cure from his own blood later in the film.
