Introduction

The book I have chosen for this project is A Little Piece of Ground by Elizabeth Laird with help from Sonia Nimir. This book was challenged in Canada on grounds of racism. In my exhibit, I will explore the voices and lives of Palestinians, specifically items they carried with them when so many were displaced during the Arab-Isreali War of 1948. My grandfather was among those Palestinian refugees who, at age 13, fled his home to escape the conflictr. He and his family had to leave in such a hurry that they were only able to get out with the clothes on their backs and a few small items to remind them of their homeland. I hope to humanize this group of people that is often dehumanized and forgotten.
