Conclusion

Even after experiencing turmoil, oppression, and hardships, the Palestinian people continue to be resilient. This exhibit explores the lives of Palestinians, both past and present. The objects chosen represent the pride and love that Palestinians feel for their homeland. While my grandfather fled his country in a hurry, these items held the most significance to him and his family. The objects featured in this exhibit provide further context to the story, increasing the chances of its long term relevance and survival. Their struggles did not end when they escaped as they experienced horrible living conditions in a series of refugee camps in Syria where they lived for several years. In A Little Piece of Ground, Karim faces similar struggles faced by my family, differing, it seems, only in the time period in which the story takes place. The same problems have been recurring since their beginning in the 1940s. Everyone still turns a blind eye. Most of this “conflict” is between rocks and guns, handmade rockets and accurate missiles, and the poor and the rich. It is not a fair fight. It never has been, and it never will be.
