Book

A Little Piece of Ground, written by Elizabeth Laird with Sonia Nimir and published in 2003,  follows 12-year old Karim and his family through their life in occupied Palestine. Every aspect of his day-to-day life is controlled and often consists of violence but he is determined to find a small patch of ground to play soccer on. With the progression of the story, the reader learns the mistreatment that Karim and fellow Palestinians are subjected to. In an interview with NPR, Elizabeth Laird expresses that her book is a metaphor for the Palestinan desire to have their little piece of ground returned to them.
