Duck Hunt: Local to Global
Nintendo, the company that created Duck Hunt- one of the most popular games that use a light-gun controller, started in Japan by producing playing cards. From playing cards, they started venturing out to board games, then to beam-gun series. A few years later, they were able to expand to America and created Nintendo of America INC. After the rise of arcade games in the 80s, Nintendo decided to make home video games. In 1985, Nintendo introduced the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), which uses game cartridges for different games. Duck Hunt, a popular game in Japan, is one of the games introduced in the US that was included as a bundle together with the NES. The introduction of the NES and Duck Hunt was part of Nintendo's effort of bringing arcade games into people's homes. The inclusion of Duck Hunt in NES bundles made the game one of the most well-known light-gun games.
Duck Hunt: Endangerment
Duck Hunt is a game that is heavily reliant on hardware. It is not playable without the Zapper and CRT televisions. The discontinuation of the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1995 and technological transitions contributed to the endangerment of Duck Hunt. As people transition from using CRT television screens into flatscreen LCD, the game becomes unplayable. CRT television is uncommon nowadays, which means that people have to source out obsolete technology to play it outside of emulations.
