Digital Mapping Reflection

Given that I have chosen only a specific chapter from the Travels of Ibn Battuta, I chose to build my map based on the locations Battuta travelled to from that specific chapter only.  Normally I would have used the open street map, but I wanted to make my project a bit more unique by using a map that would reflect a medieval setting. The map that I chose was created by the officials of  UC Berkeley University. The map specializes only in the locations that Battuta travelled to specifically, hench gives a proper insight on where he travelled. The ancient brown colour of the map sets the overall neatline into a medieval setting, which is ideal for a general reader to understand the overall context. One thing that I have learned from simply completing this assignment is how space changes dramatically as Battuta travels from one location to another. In the story, it talks in heavy detail about the people he meets, the surrounding environments and how import and export processes were beginning to revolutionize. In class, we learned a lot about maps and how they were structured in the early days. By using this digital mapping tool, it helped me a lot to visualize the over plot of this chapter.
