Silverlake Life: The View From Here is a 99-minute documentary made by Tom Joslin. It was filmed after Tom and his partner, Mark Massi, both tested positive for AIDS. Their journey was conveyed through this film with love and humor despite the hardships they faced from AIDS. Tom was always passionate about film-making and was previously a film teacher at UCLA. One of his old students, Peter Friedman, is the editor of this documentary. This film was released in 1993 and later uploaded on Peter Friedman's Youtube channel in 2019. Silverlake Life: The View From Here also won a few awards like The Los Angeles Film Critics Award, The Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize, Freedom of Expression Award a Peabody Award, The Prix Italia in Rome for Best Documentary Worldwide, Best Public TV Documentary Worldwide, International Documentary Association Award, Berlin Film Festival Teddy Bear Award.
