The manuscript is copied on very thin refined parchment in beautiful square Anglo-Saxon hand. The purity of the ink is one of the first things you'll notice about the manuscript. The Exeter Book is likely to have been written in a monastery scriptorium in the southwest of England by a single scribe. However, due to the poor quality of the parchment and the absence of adornment in the text, it is assumed that the scriptorium was not exceptionally affluent (Oliver, 2021).
These days, ultrasonic water mist has proven to be an effective way to moisten parchment. In the past, parchment's hard vertical creases were moistened with ultrasonic spray and then smoothed out by tensioning the fore-edge, especially when just local treatment is required. As the books are regularly opened and closed during usage, distinctive creasing and pleating of the pages can emerge in big folio size handwritten codices and those with exceptionally thin parchment leaves. A controlled humidification process should be applied to the parchment so that the acute creases and pleats relax and smooth out, preferably without damaging the otherwise undamaged portions (QUANDT, 1996).
