Introduction
MSS 04246 is an early fourteenth-century manuscript copy of the Liber Pantheon, a book of exempla authored by the Dominican Inquisitor, Etienne de Bourbon. This manuscript has had a vibrant life, influencing both historical preaching practices and modern academic research despite its general obscurity compared to Etienne’s more famous works. To bring attention to this manuscript, this exhibit examines the ongoing life of MSS 04246 by looking at its physical properties, its historical use, and how it is treated in modern scholarship.
