Harper Lee published her novel in the year 1960 and titled it To Kill A Mockingbird. The story is set in the 1930s in Alabama, USA, and narrated by a six-year-old girl named Scout, who lives with her father Atticus, who is a lawyer, and her older brother, Jem (Lee 1960). This book has been recognized as one of the most profound “coming of age” stories in the 20th century and symbolizes what it means to lose innocence by evil destruction (Ako-Adjei 2017). The copy used in this exhibit is one of the original editions of the book, published in 1961; this is what the physical copy looked like when it was first released. The cover of the book displays the title in big letters at the top. The words “To Kill A” appear to be light green, and “Mockingbird” in white. Below the title, there is an illustration of a black tree with green leaves off to the right side. At the very bottom is the author’s name, and the entire background of the lower section of the cover is dark maroon. The copy in the photograph appears to be slightly used as the cover art is fading a little bit and to some degree the corners turning brown. In the center of the book is an award notice that Harper Lee won the Pulitzer Prize for this novel in 1961 (West Chester University 1961).
