Conclusion

In conclusion, the Canadian government has implemented a coherent program of transitional justice, including the implementation of the UNDRIP and a significant investment of over $18 billion over the next five years to strengthen Indigenous communities, as outlined in the 2021 budget, in order to reconcile with the Aboriginal people. Furthermore, recognizing the importance of acknowledging and rectifying past injustices, prejudices, and cultural genocide is the first step to fostering genuine understanding and actual reconciliation. Although it is uncertain how long this will take, taking into account the positive rate of reforms in the Canadian justice system, it wouldn’t be long before the Indigenous people of Canada are able to heal.
