Reflection

Building the exhibit whilst exploring the features of Omeka in order to better represent this argument through detailed textual as well as visual material for referring and presentation was a meaningful experience, as it gave me practical knowledge regarding technical computational skills as well as supporting my research. The exhibit also offers a more chronological and organized structure to this discussion to facilitate and support the claims and arguments made.

The digital archives and artifacts used have a simple problem that more often than not, the original documents are rarely accessible for the indigenous peoples themselves. According to the Documenting the Now White Paper, "the abundance of and access to social media content and data by countless third parties also presents opportunities for some to “weaponize” the platforms and the data they generate in ways that can cause harm to marginalized and already vulnerable communities," [Jules, B.,Summers, E., & Mitchell, V. (2018)]. Their history is also often presented in a distorted manner in an attempt to minimize the effects of colonialism.
