Conclusion

In conclusion, this essay examined the reconciliation efforts of preserving Indigenous peoples’ languages and cultures, focusing on elements of traditional languages and cultural routines and how existing policies aim to implement Indigenous languages into society. By exploring current legislations like the Indigenous Languages Act, Indigenous communities are able to incorporate languages in society, governance and daily routines, honoring historical treaties and communities. Constant education and awareness of Indigenous languages and cultures demonstrates the efforts of continuous collaboration in order to implement it into Canadian societies, providing respect, equal rights and acknowledgment of the past. Figure 6 displays this rise in awareness and education of Indigenous rights, shown below is an image of protests in Montreal during Canada Day 2021, advocating and showing solidarity for the children impacted by Residential Schools (CNC News, 2021).
