Conclusion

Your whole exhibit should build towards this section. What was the point of all this? What is the most important thought you want a reader to have, now that they’ve experienced your exhibit? What insights into text technologies and the transmission of knowledge would you like your viewer to draw from your exhibit? Remember, this is a digital exhibit, not an encyclopedia article. You need some kind of thesis. This is your chance to make it stick.

Your digital exhibit about the book is a “new media encounter,” in Alan Liu’s term—that is, a conversation between the original technology in which the book was produced and the digital platform you use to reflect on the book.

Draw on the scholarly readings of this course and of your project to discuss the “new media encounter” moment between the endangered book and your presentation of it in a digital medium. What is gained? What is lost? (Some things to think about: textual stability, sustainability, relationships between authors/readers/editors, etc.)
