"Iron pattern-welded sword blade, heavily corroded. The blade is broad and tapers slightly towards the pointed tip. [...] The Sutton Hoo sword was not restored from fragments - it was lifted as a solid but rusted unit" (British Museum Catalogue, https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/H_1939-1010-95). The cocked-hat-shaped pommel is decorated with gold and garnet cloisonné work (British Museum, https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/H_1939-1010-19-a-c).
