Introduction

Sigmund Freud is considered to be the father of Psycho-analysis, his book Vorlesungen zur Einführung in die Psychoanalyse (Introductory lectures on Pscho-analysis) was originally published in 1916-1917 in Leipzig and Vienna. The book is a set of 28 lectures on his views on dreams, unconscious and neuroses.The book was banned in Nazi Germany. This book along with hundreds of others, were burned in the 1933 Nazi book burnings during the reign of Adolf Hitler.

This Omeka exhibit focuses on Sigmund Freud’s Vorlesungen zur Einführung in die Psychoanalyse in the context of the Nazi book burnings. The 1933 book burnings were carried out by students studying at various universities across the country. The main reason why Sigmund Freud’s work was targeted was because he identified as Jewish and the Nazi’s were strongly antisemitic.
