Background and Argument

There is mistreatment and cultural erasure of Aboriginal people throughout Canadian history. The establishment and operation of residential schools in Canada can be called a form of cultural genocide and part of the settler colonial project. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada points out that the Canadian government separates Aboriginal children from their parents and sends them to residential schools. The purpose of this is to organize these children to learn the culture and identity of their own race, not for educational purposes. Instead of being stopped, this act of cultural genocide developed rapidly. By 1930, there were already 80 residential schools in Canada.
