Introduction

This exhibit will discuss Martin Luther's Passional Christi und Antichristi, which is a pamphlet published in 1521 in Whittenberg, Germany during the Reformation Era. In this exhibit, I discuss the content in Luther's Passional Christi und Antichristi, the context surrounding this pamphlet, and the technology used to create this pamphlet. In the Passional Christi und Antichristi, Luther discusses his disapproval of the actions and beliefs of the papacy and claims that the Pope was the Antichrist. This pamphlet includes 26 woodblock images paired with descriptions written in German. The reputation of the Catholic Church and the Pope was compromised because of Luther's beliefs that are featured in the Passional Christi und Antichristi.
