This exhibit highlights how pictures of Caliban from Shakespeare's Tempest reinforce colonial perceptions of indigenous peoples as inferior. As a character, Caliban's cruelty and inhumanity embody what colonial society perceived as the truth of the other: a monster that needed to be tamed.
