Grendel's defeat

My exhibit focuses on Grendel the first monster, from Beowulf.

Grendel was a descendant of Cain, and thus an outcast. Grendel brought fear and havoc to the Danish Nation by grabbing thirty men at once. Grendel is a monster who is seeking revenge for being shunned from society. He is angry and his desire for vengeance is overwhelming. His reign of terror and darkness lasted for twelve years. His strength seemed unmatchable, that is until he is met with match – Beowulf.

Beowulf, is the from the land of the Geats. He arrives to save the Shieldings from the pain caused by Grendel. The battle between them and Grendel’s defeat gives rise to the great Beowulf, who is named the ultimate warrior and the protector of his people.

I plan to use a 7^th century Anglo-Saxon shield from The British Museum to illustrate the war between Grendel and Beowulf. Beowulf sacrificed the use of any weapon to fight Grendel, and used only his strength to defeat the monster. The shield is used to draw an analysis of the battle and highlights the heroism of Beowulf which led to the downfall of the evil created by Grendel.
