Conclusion
In conclusion, by looking at three stages in the history of the Exeter Book, its varying influence across time has been demonstrated. The Exeter Book was culturally important to 10th century England as the works within reflected their collective identity, values, religion, lamentations, anxieties, humour, and daily lives. However, after its initial donation to the Exeter Cathedral and the abandonment of the Old English language, we can see that the influence of the Exeter Book temporarily diminished. Despite this, cultural and scholarly shifts allowed for a rebirth in the 18thcentury, and its influence has penetrated all forms of art, literature, culture, and technology since. Physical preservation of the Exeter Book is essential, but art and literature can also create alternative methods of preservation through referencing it or drawing inspiration from it. With growing technology, the accessibility of the Exeter Book also increases. This is achieved through DH projects such as the 2021 Exeter Book website. Through this increase in accessibility, the educational value of the Exeter Book can reach a greater crowd of not only scholars, but the general public. Thus, the Exeter Book can continue to provoke, teach, and inspire individuals across the globe (until this DH project becomes obsolete, and the next one must be created!)
