Conclusion
Revitalizing the many Indigenous languages across Canada is an important part of the reconciliation process. Many are endangered, and losing the language means losing the important cultural heritage that is tied to it. The TRC’s Calls to Action about language are focused on education on and about the language in schools, and Indigenous Peoples’ right to learn and speak their own language. Many schools, such as the University of Toronto, have implemented Indigenous language classes, and schools that teach in Indigenous languages have become more prevalent (Fig. 1). These are great steps towards reconciliation in Canada.
