José Saramago and "Blindness"

What would you do if suddenly, all you could see was white light?

How would you, as an individual, change? How would the life around you change?

The following digital gallery will examine José Saramago's fictional illness in "Blindness (1995)" and, in doing so, answer those questions in addition to highlighting the novel's relationship to Disease & Culture as well as other philosophical themes.

The exhibit will focus on the three following objectives:

Saramago's "Blindness" as an allegorical novel.
Examining key quotations from the book and their relevance and their relationship to Saramago's intended philosophical themes.
The relationship between the Saramago's fictional disease and the current Covid-19 Pandemic
