Introduction

Tempest is an arcade video game that was released in 1981. At its peak it was able to make Next Generation’s (a video game magazine) “Top 100 Games of All Time”. The game was developed by Atari, a company that was in the forefront of the game industry at the time. The arcade game was unable to move into the “at-home” video game market. The game did not have a ready-to-use control and required users to build the controller from scratch. This did not allow for a smooth transition into the market and as a result it was unable to remain a popular game. Tempest became a known as a “classic” game and was remastered multiple times.
