My exhibition is about the American novel called The Scarlet Letter, written by Nathaniel Hawthorn. It is the first printed novel in America. Catergorized as a romance novel, it was considered taboo by the Puritans in New England, and was banned in different periods of time. Up till the 1970s, the book was still considered controversial to the point of being potentially censored .
In this exhibit, I will focus on the portrayal of morals and sense of justice within public and private spaces within the novel in relationship to its occasionally controversial reception in history.
