Released in 2016, Train to Busan is a Korean zombie Horror/Action film with one of the biggest box offices in Korean film history. The film documents the escape of passengers of different socio-economic backgrounds from a zombifying virus and victims who have contracted the virus. The majority of the film was filmed inside of a KTX (Korea Train Express) train heading from Seoul to Busan. The main premise of the film is to depict the socio-economic divide within South Korean society as well as the failure of the governmental system to protect its citizens. The growth from a selfish to a selfless main character was also seen throughout the film. Furthermore, the film has parallels to the COVID-19 pandemic from both the political and personal aspects. Not only is Train to Busan an entertaining film that documents the spread of a viral outbreak, but it also sends valuable messages regarding the superiority and selfishness of individuals who are of higher socio-economic class. In this exhibit, the most pivotal moments of the film will be analyzed to express these underlying themes.
