My digital exhibit will be focusing on Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species, one of the first texts to introduce the phenomenal evolutionary theory and natural selection. It will display reasons on why it was outlawed throughout various times in history because of its contradiction to Christianity. The main reason for its banning was because it contradicted the popular beliefs of the power of God, and this caused confusion and conflict as many people at the time believed that God was the only powerful creator of everything and that science did not explain the overall existence of life at all. Rather, science provided a misleading insight into human existence. With this reason revolving around each banning history of this book, this exhibit will narrow down its focus to one specific event in relation to its banning which impacted a trial event in 1925 called the “Scope’s Monkey Trial”.
