John Locke's, "An Essay Concerning Humane Understanding": A Banned Book Exhibition

This exhibition focuses on An Essay Concerning Humane Understanding by John Locke, printed in London by Eliz. Holt in 1690. This literary text is a collection of four books in one, all based on an empiricist approach regarding the development of human knowledge (Uzgalis 2001). According to the Index Librorum Prohibitorum (the Index of Prohibited Books), the Essay was banned from 1734 to 1737 by the Roman Cathloic Church, for containing information that threatened a readers faith (Sheridan 2006).
