For this Final Exhibit Project in DHU236, I will be creating an exhibit on “Contagion,” a film released in 2011, directed by Steven Soderbergh. This plague literature interested me as the movie has many similarities to what we as a society is going through today with the coronavirus. This film is something that I wanted to explore in this exhibit as the way the people in the film reacted, coped, and acted physically and psychologically to the virus in relation to how we acted in the real world. I believe that it is a very intriguing and interesting point that I want to cover. I also wanted to showcase how society changed and how we have re-shaped now from this virus. Both outbreaks started in China. Both (probably) involved an infected bat. And both spread rapidly across the globe, killing victims with flu-like symptoms. When this movie was released, there were still many years until the virus became a reality, however, many believed that it was bound to happen at some point in time. I want to explore not only the virus but the people involved in trying to find a cure for it, as well as society as a whole and how they changed throughout time from when the virus first hit until now.
