Subject
Art History, Medieval Art, Gender, Sexuality
Description
My exhibit examines the ways in which gender and sexuality were understood and perceived during the Early Medieval period through how they were represented in artistic traditions. It includes artistic examples from across Europe and the Middle East to compare how Medieval civilizations and communities differently understand gender and sexuality according to their cultural beliefs. This exhibit seeks to determine the social roles played by women in the Middle Ages and how gendered power dynamics were reflected and reinforced through art and architecture that was created from the male perspective.
