Razmakhnina - Liber Pantheon, MSS 0246

MSS 04246 is a copy of the Liber Pantheon, an abridged version of Etienne de Bourbon’s "Tractatus de diversis materiis predicalibus," which is a collection of over 3000 exempla made to be a preaching aide. The manuscript is made up of 236 leaves. It is bound in modern red over boards and resides in a red slip case. The leather is well cared for and there are no visible damages on it. The text is written in a compact, rounded Gothic script in several hands. The main text is written in brown ink with red rubrics, red and blue paragraph markers, and red and blue puzzle initials with pen flourishes that create fish and human faces. Several attempts were made to stabilize the piece, including medieval-era stitching on folio 116, and pieces of modern paper reinforcements in-between the gutters of the gatherings. On page 75r, there is a portion of the text purposefully scrapped off. At the very end of the manuscript, on folio 235r, there is an inscription that reads “Iste liber est fratris…” with the rest illegible.
